The horseshoe theory: Symbols actions and assemblies in protest cultures
2020, essay

According to the “Hufeisentheorie” [German term for “horseshoe theory”], counter cultures of the political far Left and Right have more in common with each other than with the political camps of the centre. Testing the idea that two extreme ends attract or even complement each other, this essay investigates seemingly parallels as well as crucial differences between the two through their visual representation and bodily practices at protests in Germany between 2015 and 2019.

The essay was published as part of the book “Social matter, social design: For good or bad, all design is social”.
