Freedom of Movements
2021-2022
Public transport between places positions bodies at the centre of a web of power relations, dominated by vehicles, algorithms, schedules, security technologies and pre- defined routes and behaviour.
The workshop dissects the multilayered interactions between bodies and space, between rules and systems of power, that emerge in networks of public transportation. How do those networks configure interactions and organise bodies? Through an embodied approach, participants explore how the design of public transport impacts freedom of movement and reproduces oppressive norms & ideologies. Through studying the interaction of the body and space, they are asked to observe, analyse and reflect upon their and others experiences. Participants are invited to position their body as a research tool, using play, embodiment, and the re-enactment of (un)written social rules to deconstruct social behaviour.
This workshop is a collaboration with Gabriel Fontana.
